The Summer After Grad

Today's YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday question is:

How did you spend/how will you spend the summer after graduation?

I wish I could say I took a road trip with friends or backpacked across Europe. Truthfully, I did, oh, um, not much.

However, the April before I graduated, I took a trip to a small town in France called Perigueux. There I visited places like this:

(kinda wish the dates weren't on them all)

There is one thing I did the summer before I headed off to BYU. I was in a community production of West Side Story. It was a lot of fun. I got to play both a Jet girl and a Shark girl, wear an awful wig, and one of my handful of lines was, "Ooh, ooh, oobley-ooh." I sang some songs (no solos) and danced a whole bunch. It was a blast and I'm still sad that I never got my hands on the DVD. All of my pics are of us doing crazy things backstage, so this is the only one I'm gonna share.

That's me on the right with my fugtastic wig.

What did you do the summer after grad? Anyone have more interesting stories than me? It's not hard...

And don't forget, if you're a follower, go to my Monday's post and enter to win a copy of Insurgent or City of Lost Souls!

  1. Hahaha! Love the 'fugtastic' wig (and love that word too!). Believe me, I know fugtastic getups during post-grad summers firsthand--I was a clown. Yep. I think performing in West Side Story is FAR cooler than being a clown on a mission trip. :)

  2. I have never been to France. Yes, I grew up in the UK, just across the channel from France, but never went. Fail? Tell me about it!

I certainly didn't don wig and perform in a musical during that summer (though that would have made for a very--umm--interesting picture!), but I was excited and nervous about going to university.

Great pictures, Melanie--thanks for sharing! :)

  3. Haha, that picture is great! And the little town in France looks beautiful. My summer after graduation was very tumultuous so I would be happy to have such a nice one!

As Colin said, thanks for sharing the great pictures!

  5. Hmm...Good question. I worked my butt off after graduating college because in the fall I took an assistantship in France (great pics, by the way). I needed as much money as I could make!

The summer after graduate school, I was a brand spankin' new mom, so a lot changed for me in just a couple of years. But, that's how life goes!

  6. That is not nearly as bad as the wig I had to wear as an Oompa Loompa, so no complaining! Glad you squeezed some fun trips and activities in around your schooling.

  7. Love the West Side Story get-up! :) The photos are lovely. I've never been to France - maybe someday.
