What's Up Wednesday: Success and Revisions

What I'm Reading
I finished Dreams of Gods and Monsters and I have LOTS of opinions, some of which I shared on Monday's post. Then I read School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins which was a great, fun, quick read. I loved her Hex Hall series so I'm glad she continued it on with a new character. Now I'm reading The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepard.
What I'm Writing
I started my revisions on EPONINE last Wednesday like I said I would. YES! I've done eighteen chapters and 141 pages in the last week. My goal is to be finished by June 18th because I leave on the 19th for a quick trip to the States, which doesn't really matter but it's something to aim for.
What Inspires Me Right Now
THIS.
What Else I've Been Up To
I took my ten-year-old to see Maleficent on the weekend. I didn't really want to go but my daughter did and I was actually pleasantly surprised. At first, all I could see was Angelina Jolie with weird horns, but then I got into the movie and forgot it was her. The imagery in the movie was beautiful and the twist was really good. (Also, I couldn't help but think of chimaera when I looked at faerie Maleficent. Anyone else?)
What have you been up to?

  1. I didn't even know about School Spirits! How fun. I really enjoyed the Hex Hall series. Good luck with your revising! We're supposed to finish revising ours by the 15th, so I feel your pain.

  2. I want to read The Madman's Daughter, I've heard good things about it, but I'm tempted to read The Island of Doctor Moreau first. :)

Well done on starting your revisions! I hope you managed to get everything done when you want it done.

I saw Maleficent last week, too. Angelina Jolie was brilliant. :)

    Have a great week!

    1. I haven't read The Island of Doctor Moreau so I'm coming to this book with no expectations whatsoever. So far, so good!

  4. Oh, my gosh, your comments on DoGaM are *spot on*. In my opinion, anyway. The same scene in multiple POVs thing drove me bananas. Gah! She's a truly awesome writer, but man, it could have been trimmed a lot.

Good job on editing EPONINE! You're making awesome progress. From the sounds of it, June 18th shouldn't be too, too difficult. Hope you're having an awesome week!

  5. I've heard mixed opinions about Maleficent. Hoping I enjoy it. We all find success in different ways, mine is definitely more like the second picture. Congrats on all the progress you've made with Eponine! Keep it up, I'm sure you'll meet your goal by the 18th!

  6. Hmmm I'll have to go look at your DoGaM opinions! And are you writing Les Mis-related fiction? Because that sounds awesome!!

Having a deadline, and especially some event that goes along with the deadline, really helps me. I hope it works for you. :) Have an excellent week!

  7. Ha! Yes! I thought Angelina Jolie looked like a chimera when I saw the trailer for Maleficent too. Love that hilarious success diagram. It's so true and somehow makes me feel better about the insane work that goes into this whole writing process. You're just crushing your revisions! Wow! Eighteen chapters this week is incredible! Nicely done!

  8. Ooo, I've read THE MADMAN'S DAUGHTER! I had opinions about it, but I won't share here. You can read it and then, if you're interested, look up my review on Goodreads. :) I'm just excited to see a blog friend starting to read a book I've already read. That doesn't happen too often--I'm usually the one playing "catch up" on reading. :)

Congrats with the revision progress, Melanie! I hope you make your goal. :)

  9. Eek, I LOVED Hex Hall! I know Ms Hawkins has a number of other books out, so I'll have to check them out :) Great job on EPONINE, too - I don't know what it's about, but if it's anything Les Mis, I'm intrigued ;)

Best of luck with the rest of the revisions, and have a wonderful week, Melanie!
