What's Up Wednesday: NOT The Fault In Our Stars

What I'm Reading
I read The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd which was pretty good. I had a couple of minor issues with it but nothing to keep me from requesting the sequel from my library as soon as I finished the last page. Then I read Easy by Tammara Webber, probably the first NA I've ever read. Unless you count Fangirl. That's NA, right? Anyway, I had no clue what Easy was about so I was a little shocked by the first chapter, but I enjoyed the book. Now I'm back to historical fantasy with The Beautiful and the Cursed by Page Morgan.
What I'm Writing Revising
Almost finished with my revisions!!! Today, hopefully. Once I'm done, I'm sending it to one final reader and then one more revision before... QUERYING!
What Inspires Me Right Now
I took part in Vicki Leigh's cover reveal for Catch Me When I Fall on Monday- you can scroll down to check it out. I haven't read the book but a CP of mine has and just hearing how it's gone from early draft to contract to cover reveal is pretty awesome. I'm excited for Vicki and also for the day when I hopefully have my own cover to reveal!
What Else I've Been Up To
I wanted to see The Fault In Our Stars on the weekend (and I'm going to be supremely jealous of anyone who did) but instead, because I was with the hubs and my BIL and SIL, none of whom want to see that, we went to Edge of Tomorrow. It was actually pretty entertaining. The best thing for me was how Tom Cruise starts off as a sissy! Ha. The action was pretty intense too.

Anyone see TFiOS? How was it? Hopefully I'll get to see it in a couple of weeks.

  1. The Beautiful and the Cursed sounds interesting. :) Glad to hear your revisions are going well!

I did want to see TFiOS, but ever since Shailene Woodley gave an interview in which she said she's 'not a feminist because', and then basically explained what feminism is, her face has kind of annoyed me. I mean I feel like I shouldn't think so harshly about it, but it annoys me when women who are in a position which means little girls will listen to what they say claim that feminism, or what they understand to be feminism, is a bad thing.

So that's my mini rant over. :P Have a great week!

  2. I haven't seen TFIOS either. I'll be seeing it right around the same time as you. Good luck with finishing your revisions! That's awesome. And have a great week!

  3. I love Easy. I won it in a contest a while back and it was probably the second NA book I read but I loved it. The book surprised me in more ways than one and I just couldn't put it down. Catch Me When I Fall sounds like my kind of book and that cover is AMAZING. I'll definitely be on the look out for it in when it comes out.

Congrats on almost being finished with your revisions!

And I don't think I'm read for TFIOS. The book had me in tears long after I read it so I know the movie will do the same.

  4. EASY was the first NA book I read, and I really enjoyed it!

I can't wait to watch TFIOS, though I've heard good things about The Edge of Tomorrow, too.

Good luck with the rest of the revisions! How exciting! :D

  6. I didn't get to see TFIOS this weekend either. In fact, it's not coming to the theatre in my town until more than a week from now. Ah well. I'm sure it's worth the wait. Congrats on getting so close to the end of your revisions. Very cool. Have a wonderful week, Melanie! :D

  8. Good luck finishing revisions!

I keep hearing such great things about Edge of Tomorrow. I have a general avoidance of Tom Cruise so I probably won't be seeing it. I haven't seen TFIOS yet either, though I've heard from quite a few people who have and apparently it's fantastic. I really want to!

  9. Best of luck finishing your revisions. I'm about to tackle the first round of mine and I'm not excited. I love revisions with guidance (which I have) but it's always hard to start.

That cover is stunning! I love cover reveals because I'm a sucker for gorgeous covers (who isn't)?

I haven't read a single NA book yet. Not really on purpose although none of them have really called out to me. (I don't think Fangirl counts? Everyone seems to consider it YA, despite the older age, because it's still a coming of age story? But heck if I know.. and I haven't read that one either.)

  10. Good luck getting final revisions done! As for TFiOS, I have yet to see it, and I'm not sure if I want to. I'm always really weary about seeing movie versions of books because I'm afraid it'll "destroy" the way I saw the book in my head. . . then again, it's John Green for Pete's Sake and it's not like the point of the book changed. But between you and me, I'm not the biggest Shailene Woodley fan. When you go see it though, I hope you enjoy it! :)

  11. I really, really want to see The Edge of Tomorrow. I'm thinking perhaps that might make a good Father's Day outing. Ha! Tom Cruise as a sissy. That totally cracked me up.

My thoughts on THE MADMAN'S DAUGHTER were similar to yours. I had a few minor issues but enjoyed it enough that I'll read the sequel sometime.

Sounds like you're in the homestretch on those revisions! Yay! Good luck wrapping those up and starting the querying process soon!

  12. Yay for querying! Best of luck, Melanie! You're not the only one who hasn't seen TFIOS yet. I probably won't for a few weeks. *womp womp* Have a great week, lady!

  13. I loved Easy. I think it was the first NA I read too.
Yay for being almost done and so close to querying.
I saw TFIOSs Thursday night, my town had an early showing. It was AMAZING! I was really impressed with it. The cast was incredible. Hope you get to see it soon.

  14. I don't think I'll get a chance to see TFIOS until the weekend after next - that is forever!

I've read a few NA books, although I started reading one of them with the idea it was actually a YA. Imagine my surprise when full-on graphic sex happened a few pages in...

    Good luck with your revisions!

  15. Congrats on almost finishing your revisions!! *throws confetti*

And I love it when there are *multiple* good movies to choose from. I have had to wait for Man Cub to finish TFiOS before going to see the movie. This has been HARD.

Hope you have an amazing week! :)

  16. I'm waiting to see TFIOS at home. I don't want to cry in a theater full of people. Sorry I'm just now stopping by; I think I caught what everybody else had last week.
