What's Up Wednesday: Meat, Meat, and More Meat

What I'm ReadingI read The Beautiful and the Cursed by Page Morgan which was a great historical fantasy although I had a hard time getting a handle on one of the MCs- Ingrid. I do want to read the next one though. Then I read If I Lie by Corrine Jackson which was totally engrossing but the ending was so not satisfying (so there, lady who wrote that stupid article) but I get why it ended that way. Last night I finished Splintered by A.G. Howard. I have to say- I didn't love the book, mostly because I've never been an Alice in Wonderland fan, so it was just hard for me to get into it. I read until the end and the end was good, but I doubt I'll pick up the sequel.
What I'm Writing
While E is with one last CP, I'm reading my NaNoWriMo WIP. Just trying to refresh myself on it without actually revising yet. So far it doesn't suck as bad as I thought!
What Inspires Me Right Now
My girls dancing in their recitals! So proud!

What Else I've Been Up To
Last week was the hubs birthday and we went to one of his fave restaurants- Bolero. It's a Brazilian all-you-can-eat meat place where the goucho dudes walk around with meat skewers and you end up having to get rolled out of the place due to FULLNESS. Despite said fullness, we had gelato for dessert. On Saturday, our town had a Parade which the kids love because they get lots of candy. Then that evening we celebrated Father's Day with some family. I made tons of wings that take literally hours to make but they are super yummy. I think I'm still full from my meat-overdose!

What have you been up to? Link up here.

  1. It's always a great feeling when you open an old WIP and it doesn't suck as much as you remember! :P Hope you have a great week!

  2. Always good to refresh your memory before revisions and nice when an old WIP turns out to be better than expected! Also, Bolero sounds amazing, I wish I knew of a place like that.

  3. It's the best when your old WIPs are better than you thought! Also, love the pics of your daughters. I wish dancing was something I was good at, but I do not have the grace (or rhythm!) for it!

I also heartily approve of the food-themed events. Great job! ;)

Also, thanks for the necklace compliment! I'm trying to convince Alz to put up a jewelry store or something, so the positive feedback helps. And I hope you and your girls enjoy HTTYD2! It's so good!

  4. I'm impressed by all your projects! How nice to read a NaNoWriMo draft and find that you like it more than you thought. Cute girls -- they look just like mine who had her dance recital last weekend too. (They look about the right age for Wendy Mass's Willow Falls series -- 11 Birthdays is the first one. Super cute.)

  5. You know, I had much the same feeling about IF I LIE when I finished it. I get why it ended the way it did, but I wasn't over the moon about it. Ah well. I've been getting the urge to read a project sitting on my computer, but I'm resisting that urge in favour of finishing what I'm *currently* working on. Awesome that you're loving this NaNo project. That will make revisions just that much more enjoyable. :D

  6. Going to have to get to IF I LIE soon! Just to see what it's all about.

That sounds like an AMAZING resturant.

Good luck with the NANO. Have a great week.

  7. Okay, wings and gelato? I'm slobbering all over my laptop right now. Sounds tasty!

Your girls look adorable in their dance outfits! Glad their recitals went well!

I have to say that while I really enjoyed SPLINTERED, I wasn't a fan of the sequel. As for IF I LIE, it definitely wasn't a story that tied up neatly. I think maybe I was expecting that and mostly wanted the mc to be vindicated in the end. good luck with your NaNo project this week!

  8. Sounds like a good week, Melanie. It was only a few months ago, so I remember well the anticipation of waiting for Beta Reader feedback. It's great your NaNo project gave you encouragement while you're waiting. This also makes me feel guilty that I've taken so long over the beta reading I'm doing...!

I hope this week's even better for you. :)

  9. Oh, now I really, really want wings!! Your daughters are gorgeous. Those kinds of events are always so fun. The Beautiful and The Cursed looks good - adding it to my TBR list. Have a great week!
