What's Up Wednesday: Yay For That!

WHAT I'M READING
Buy-bye reading slump! All thanks to Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. There was this thing that happened in the middle that made no sense (and bummed me out because it felt like a device) but then she revealed more about it later so yay for that! Now I'm just starting All the Light We Cannot See by Anothony Doerr which is an adult historical novel set during WWII that my mom gave me for Christmas.

WHAT I'M WRITING
I haven't worked on my WIP since November. I thought I had less than 10k and that it sucked. Turns out, I have 17k and it's not as bad as I thought so yay for that! I've been rereading what I've got so far and then I hope to get right back into 1k a day.

WHAT WORKS FOR ME
Rereading what I've written. I know some people say never look back, but it helps me get back into the groove. Especially since I haven't seen my WIP in a couple of months. But even when I write every day, I always read back what I wrote the day before so I can jump back into the voice and my train of thought.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Oh, yanno, Christmas, New Years, visiting parents, daughter turning eight. I saw Annie and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies (twice). I stayed up late a lot, started watching Call the Midwife (LOVE) and season five of Downton Abbey (yay for that!). And me and the hubs have been trying to catch up with all the shows we watch together. We were four episodes behind on EVERYTHING. We're still not caught up, although me and son have finished all episodes of Doctor Who (who's ready for a new Doctor, raise your hand).
And yesterday I took part in the release for THE LAST STORED by a facebook friend of mine Sonia Poynter. Check it out below.

  1. Good luck with your WIP! 1k a day sounds like a reasonable goal, and I'm glad to hear it didn't suck as much as you thought it would. :) Happy writing.

  2. It sounds like your drafting process is pretty similar to mine. I always read back over the last day's writing to get into the groove again. I also find revisiting stories I've set aside (briefly or more permanently) to be a great way to boost my self-confidence. I'm happy to hear that you not only have more words than you thought, but that you like them too. Very cool!

I love, love, love Call the Midwife. Such a great show. I can't wait to hear what you think about your current read because it caught my eye as well. Have a great week, Melanie! :D

  4. That's a whole lotta British TV you got going on there ;) We know how to make it, right? :P I even found myself watching Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife over Christmas :P

Good luck with the WiP. Gotta do whatever works for you, right?

  6. I completely agree on rereading. It's a great way to get back into the mood of your WIP and to pick up those story threads wherever you dropped them.

Yay for the end of your reading slump! Sarah J. Maas is a bit of a super hero that way, isn't she? I loved CROWN OF MIDNIGHT so much, and I'm happy you did too. I think my reading slump has come to an end as well, which is a great way to kick off the year. Now if only there was more time to read! Have a super week, and good luck getting back into 1k a day!

  8. I've heard great things about ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE - enjoy! I loved The Hobbit. They really finished it off well. Although, my daughter kept pointing out inconsistencies with the book (which I haven't read) so that was annoying! Lol. Have a great week!

  9. You've seen every movie I haven't seen yet, and that's crazy because I feel like I've been in the theater nonstop! I guess I've got to get my butt back there again...sigh. Life is so tough. Have a great week!
