I read Alienated by Melissa Landers which I looooved. Then To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han which I also loved. The voice felt young to me, but that's not a complaint, merely an observation. I love reading all different types of characters. Then I DNF'd Otherbound by Corrine Duyvis which I feel really bad about but I just couldn't get into it. :( Now I'm reading How To Love by Katie Cotugno which is totally un-put-down-able. In fact, I bet I'll be done sometime today.
WHAT I'M WRITING
Um, nothing. Yikes. Pitch Wars is sucking up my time!
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Musicals! I love musicals and last week I got to see two. First, Wicked in Calgary which was good although the story felt a little weak. Songs were great and Glinda was excellent! Then while I was in Cardston (Alberta) visiting my parents, I saw The Scarlet Pimpernel. The costumes, WOW, the costumes! And it was SO funny! You should have seen these dudes dress up all froufrou! My parents live in Cardston and every summer they have the best theatre. There's usually three or four different shows playing and I manage to get to one each year.
For Good from Wicked
Creation of Man from The Scarlet Pimpernel
(this is an older performance from somewhere else, but this song is hilarious)
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Aside from all the musicals, I also took the kids to the pool a lot last week. On the weekend... GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Way better than I thought it would be. I mean, it's MARVEL, so I figured it would be good, but still, it blew my expectations out of the water! Definitely see this movie!
I'm so jealous, I'd love to see Wicked! :o The Scarlet Pimpernel looks like a lot of fun, too. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to see Guardians of the Galaxy some time this week - I'm glad to hear it's good!
Have a great week!
I love musicals too :) I've never seen WICKED but I've got "Defying Gravity" on one of my playlists and it's fun to (badly) belt it out.
ReplyDeleteI loved TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE! You're right about the voice, but I agree, it wasn't a problem. I kind of loved that Lara Jean was a young-16, there are so many world-weary 16 year olds out there. Represent the late bloomers, YA!
ReplyDeleteI love Wicked. The National Tour came to my hometown and I shadowed the Stage Manager during one of the performances. Definitely one of my top ten life moments. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow great that you are seeing so many musicals. I need more of that in my life. Thanks for the movie recommendation. I bet my kids would love it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteEveryone keeps saying Guardians of the Galaxy is really good, so I hope I like it when I see it this weekend ^_^
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I've heard fantastic things about Guardians. I'm going to see it on Friday and I can't wait! I fully expect to love it because MARVEL.
ReplyDeleteI must be the only person who hasn't seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet! I've heard nothing but good things.
ReplyDeleteOh yay, I loved ALIENATED too! I can't wait for the sequel on that one! Have you seen the cover on it yet? It's just as cool as the first book.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous that you got to see a production of THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. I remember watching the black and white movie years ago and loving it. I'm assigning the book to my son when he learns about the French Revolution in grade eleven.
We're going to see GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on Saturday for my husband's birthday. I've been hearing awesome things about it (and like you say, it's Marvel so it's pretty much a sure bet) and I can't wait. Have a super week!
Looking forward to 'Guardians of the Galaxy', though I may not go see it in the theater, not sure. Glad to know you loved it!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for musicals! Great to see you again.
