Ready. Set. WRITE! (Week 10)

HOW I DID ON LAST WEEK'S GOAL
Um... crappy. Like, CRAPPY. I read one paragraph of my first chapter of JAR OF HEARTS and THAT'S IT. But I wasn't doing nothing all week, I swear. I wrote my synopsis for EPONINE and revised my first chapter and also spent TONS of time on the PitchWars mentor blogs and on their twitter feeds, trying to narrow down my picks.
MY GOAL FOR THIS WEEK
REVISE JAR OF HEARTS! (That's me, yelling at myself.)
A FAVORITE LINE FROM MY STORY
Here's EPONINE'S first line:
On my own, I bounce a ball of magic between my hands.
THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED THIS WEEK
Aside from PitchWars, my husband took the week off from work which wasn't great for my productivity. He spent a lot of the time working on developing our basement and wanted my help so I spent some of my week getting covered in drywall dust. Good times.
SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP
I love how this WIP took me somewhere I hadn't gone before in my writing. I had to dig deeper and darker within myself and I love how it stretched me.

  1. Good luck with writing this week, Mel. Don't beat yourself up too much. Sometimes we need a break from writing to let go and then write (even better) the next time we open up our work. :)

  2. Sometimes you need to spend time with that long, lost husband. :) Best of luck on your revisions!

  3. Good luck for this week, you can doooo it! And sometimes, drywall dust can be helpful in creativity...:) Digging deeper and darker sounds great...tough but the feeling of going to that place, the one that´s hard but also makes us better writers, is great! :-)

  5. You may not have been productive with JoH, but you were productive on the EPONINE front. Did you narrow down your list? My list is 15 mentors long and I still can't decide if I'm even entering. *sigh*

Anyway, good luck! And I love that first line! SO Les Miz!

  6. Yeah, husbands taking the week off work are a huge distraction. I guess a little enforced break from writing isn't necessarily a bad thing though, right? Even if that means getting covered in drywall dust lol. Sounds like you still had a fairly productive week! Getting your synopsis done is a huge task, plus you revised a whole chapter and did Pitch Wars research. Not too shabby! Good luck building up some momentum with your revision this week!

  7. I can see how preparing for PitchWars would take up most of your writing time--good luck narrowing down which mentors you want! There are so many, it's a little crazy. I like your "what I love" this week too--it's awesome when writing takes us somewhere we haven't been before :)

  9. Even if you didn't quite do what you wanted, it still sounds like you accomplished quite a bit. Besides, it also seems like this was one of those weeks where Life just wanted you to do other stuff (I mean, Pitch Wars AND Basement work?). So it's okay! But good luck this week with your goal! :)

P.S. Yes, Lee Pace is in Miss Pettigrew Lives... He's the pianist! (And it goes without saying that he is adorable.)

  10. Drywall dust is good times? How did I not know this? ;) Besides the synopsis(shudder), the rest of your last week sounds like fun. Contests are so exciting! Best wishes for this week!

  11. Sounds like you got lots done, even if it wasn't specifically putting words down on paper. All progress is good! I hope you are able to send your husband back to work and make more great progress this week! (I hate it when my husband's projects suddenly involve me!)
