Quarterly Check-In

Today's Road Trip Wednesday question asks:

Quarterly check-ins! We're already 1/4 of the way through the year--where are you on your reading and writing goals?

Are we talking Resolutions here? Cuz I really didn't make any. Like most people, I tend to break them and then just end up feeling like a whopping failure.

Anyway, when the New Year hit, I was thick in my revise and resubmit for Daze. My plan was to have it finished and sent in by sometime in February. I did that. Now my plan is to finish my revisions on Sway and get it query ready for April. These aren't set-in-stone goals, but I like to give myself a deadline so I have something to aim for. After that, hopefully I'll be able to get back to a WIP I started a year ago.

As for reading, I decided not to set a reading goal this year. It kinda takes the fun out of it. Reading is about the love of the story, not the number of stories.

What about you? Accomplished a bazillion goals already or just getting back on track?

  1. I don't make any resolutions either, but I've been pleasantly surprised with some of my writing goals for the year. So far, I've won two writing contests and will be a judge for another writing contest next week. As to my own writing, I'm putting the final touches on a manuscript that will go through a final round of queries and I'll continue writing another new novel I started a few months ago. So, I'm doing pretty good, I guess!

  2. Good luck on revisions to 'Sway'! I'm hoping to do a few more rounds of revising to my WIP before April, and then have it edited. We'll see how that goes.

  3. I agree, about reading goals. I am not hung up on mine. It's just fun to meet a goal when you can. Good luck in your agent quest!

  4. Wow you're doing great with your writing, hope it keeps going well.

I definitely agree about reading goals, I rather read 10 books I loved then 50 that were so-so.

  5. I'm still perfecting my relationship with reading goals--I love that having a high goal makes me carve out more minutes in my day for reading, but I don't love my addiction to seeing the progress bar fill up. But I am determined to read some longer books and finish some trilogies (which, for my swiss-cheese brain, means re-reading the first two books!) this year, so I'm trying not to let the numbers take over.

  6. I love tracking my reading on Goodreads, but I did find it became too much about the numbers last year when I kept increasing my overall goal. Then when I fell short I was bummed. But I read almost 70 books, the most ever in a year! So now I set the goal lower and determined to read a bit more in some new genres, finding new authors. I spent two years reading almost solidly in YA (research! and I like it) but I wanted to get back to some adult contemporary and some historical non-fiction I'd missed out on. I bascially lived at the library in January and read a ton.

  7. I didn't bother with new year's resolutions this year... I always forget about them after a month or so. But I've been setting small goals along the way, like finish Part III by Feb. 14, finish book by March 1, etc., and that's worked out well for me. Sounds like it has for you too.
