Are you doing NaNoWriMo, or have you ever? Does having a deadline inspire you?
No, I've never done NaNoWriMo. I first heard about it when I just barely started writing the first draft of Daze. My then 16-year-old niece was doing it. When I found out she wrote an entire book in a month... well, it lit a fire under my rear that's for sure. By the next February, I had finished my first manuscript.
I've sort of had the itch to do it this year, but the timing's off. I want to finish my Sway revisions and I've got an R&R for Daze. I'd really like to go back to my WIP and just get it finished. The idea is still floating around in the back of my head, begging to be written some more. But I've made a plan and I'm going to stick to it.
Oh, and do deadlines inspire me? Sure. I set them for myself. Of course, they're never as crazy as writing a novel in a month. Right now, I'd like to have my Sway revisions done by November 1st. I don't know if I'm going to make that deadline but I'm sure as heck gonna try.
What about you? Doing NaNo this year? Do you set yourself crazy deadlines?
I'm taking part in NaNo this year, but not to write something new. I'm finishing what I started last year during NaNo (hopefully). I just like the motivation and accountability I find by taking part in this with others. Plus, a deadline that isn't self-imposed tends to work better for me (I'm a lousy taskmaster). ReplyDeleteThis will be my first NaNo, and it'll be an interesting experience. I'm planning a re-write of my WIP, and hoping to get it mostly finished. Really, it's the deadline aspect of NaNo that convinced me to do it. I need some discipline, something to make me buckle down and finish this WIP. I wrote my last novel in a matter of a few months, so it's ridiculous that I've been picking on this thing for over a year! So the deadline, and the camaraderie of being in the same boat with lots of others, all cheering each other on--it should be fun. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, and I can't wait! I think this is really what NaNo is for, to get us going, get the juices flowing at a faster pace. We get so caught up in our regular lives that writing gets set on the back burner, and a few weeks/months go by, and darn it! What happened? So I'm doing a complete rewrite of the first novel I wrote 4 years ago. It's the final rewrite of this one. Just can't let these characters go. Their story needs to be told, but it needs to be amazing, and the other two were learning manuscripts. So, cheers to NaNo! Don't think I'll get it done in a month, but it certainly is a fun goal. No books or TV for November. Warned hubby. I'm biting my nails already...
ReplyDeleteI really wish I could enter! No time this year though I'm afraid. But i'm like you, I set deadlines for myself and usually manage to reach them, so i'm hoping when i'm ready to write i'll be able to set some deadlines and reach those goals!
