It's (the day before) Valentine's Day! Let's
jumpstart the lovefest by blogging about what you love most about writing
(and/or reading)!
I love losing myself in another world, especially a world of my own creation.
I love creating characters that stick with me, that I hear in my head, that speak to me, that fight with me when I want them to do something but they just refuse to do it, that surprise me, and that I fall for or just hate so much that it can't help but reflect in my writing. (Now I totally sound like a crazy person.)
I love the excitement and the sense of accomplishment that comes when I've finished a chapter, a scene, a manuscript, a revision.
I love hearing feedback, both positive and negative, from beta readers who are infinitely smarter than I am.
I love laughing at something I wrote but completely forgot about.
I love looking back and seeing how far I've come. How crappy that 1st draft of that 1st manuscript was and how much I've learned since.
I love knowing that I'll just keep learning and getting better the more I keep at it.
Most of all, I love how writing makes me feel. How happy I am when I'm doing it.
To writing: you complete me. Haha, I couldn't help myself.
It is cool to go back to something you wrote a while ago and re-discover it. I'm sometimes surprised that it's not all drivel--and some parts are actually worthy to be called writing! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with pretty well all of these. I recall on a couple of occasions, rereading stuff that I wrote months ago and laughing like a lunatic at my own jokes. So much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on all of these! Especially the bit about looking back and seeing how far we've come--proof that, even though we don't always realise it, everything we're doing is working. Which is the best feeling :)
ReplyDeleteI whole-heartedly agree with the sense of accomplishment! I love having something tangible done, so that I can hold it up and say, "Look! Look at this cool thing. I made this."
ReplyDeleteagreed on all counts! I love everything about writing, even the hard oh-my-gosh-why-do-i-do-this? moments because they remind me that I do it because i love it.
ReplyDeleteOk I just have to say: I LOVE that movie!! And I totally love getting lost in the world of reading and writing :)
ReplyDeleteYes! The challenges are what makes it all worth it - and seeing how much I've grown every time I look back at old stories.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the part about seeing how far you've come and how much you've learned since the first draft. That's a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteIf having characters speak to you makes you crazy, then we'll have to start a crazy club. I rewrote the ending of my book because one of my characters complained (rather loudly), and refused to do what I asked. That's one of the most fun parts of writing -- getting inside someone else's head, even if they are fictional.
ReplyDeleteI love the characters that stick around as well. The ones that make a big impact and don't disappear too easily.
ReplyDeleteI wish they were all like that...sigh.
Great blog!
