100 Is Just A Number

Today's Road Trip Wednesday question is short and to the point (which is great because I swear, where are the days before Christmas going??? I'm running out of tiiiimmmme!!!):

About how many books do you read in a year? Do you want to read more? Or, less?

Last year I read 89 books. This year, I really wanted to read 100. Don't know why, I just did. Unfortunately, I'm only at 86 right now and it's highly doubtful I'll read fourteen books in the next two and a half weeks. I don't even know if I'll end up with 89 like last year. Ah well. There's really no reason to read exactly a hundred except to be able to say that I did. I think next year I won't bother trying to meet that goal and just stick with reading when I can.

So how many books do you read in a year? And I'm just wondering, who on earth wants to read LESS than they did???

  1. I'm actually one of the weirdos saying "less"--I set a crazy-high goal for how many books I'd read this year, and I found that it led me toward short books and YA fiction and away from longer books and non-fiction or adult writing. Now, I love YA fiction, but there's all this other stuff out there that I really want to read! So I'm taking the pressure off next year and just letting it happen.

  2. I agree about "100 being just a number". I think it's ultimately about quality and the reason for the reading, not the number itself. Maybe I'm just saying that because I didn't read anywhere near 100 books.

  3. Perhaps if you set yourself a really high reading goal and you whizzed through books just to meet that goal, but can't remember a thing about the books you read, or took the time to enjoy the writing and the characters--maybe then you might want to read less next year. Otherwise, I'm with you, Melanie. There are so many books out there, I want to read as many as I can! :)

  4. I'm at 75 right now. My goal was to read one book a week and I surpassed that but a lot, so I'm happy. I don't know if I could get to 100, though. All in all it was a good reading year.

  5. I've read way more this year than I have in years (thank you, college...) so I'm really happy with that :) I'm at 75 so far this year, and I'd always be thrilled to read more!

  6. I'm at about 60-something books, which is the most I've read in a year. I've slowed down a bit the past few months because of writing projects, but I still want to keep my reading count high with a mix of writing craft books, books in the genre I write, and everything else.
